Are XC bikes used for marathon/trail too?

in racing too?

Answer
One name you need to know: John Stamsted. This guy invented the 24 solo rider class of mountain bike racing. And he did it on a standard XC hardtail mountain bike. Trust me, the more you read about this guy the more you will be amazed and all with off the shelf XC mountain bikes.

XC mountain bike?

KcT

I am an intermediate mountain biker; the trails I ride are mainly cross country and small downhill runs. I am looking into buying a new bike (my gt argressor 3.0 just broke) and the shop near me sells trek and specialized bikes. I was wondering if I should buy a specialized hardrock, a specialized rock hopper, or a trek bike. I am looking into spending $500 to $700. Are there any that are better? Thanks.

Answer
Have you considered getting a full suspension bike? Only a thought - you don't need it for XC...but would be easier on your body. If only 700 bucks look at used ones for Full susp.

Or on the hard tail side.
I think Specialized makes better MTN bikes than Trek.
There are other (better is relative) bikes in that price range ....if you want to buy online. Ebay for lots of choices in used.

Some have more travel front forks - some are lighter than others....some have better seat .....it;s relative to what you want or need. NOthing wrong with Specialized at all.
