So what is so strange about this. You are to of shape, you go to a gym and over do It. You get sore chest and shoulders. You ride a bike and over do it, you get sore legs, butt, and back. Just like in the gym, take some liquid Advil and go back and exercise a little for the next week.... Each and every day. Don't ride over a mile of two until the pain subsides. Get a good pair of padded cycling shorts.. There is a reason that they have been around for over one hundred years with virtually no changes!

The soreness is just from using muscles that you haven't exercised much recently. They will probably be sore for a day or two, but it's OK to still ride a little (as long it is just soreness and not painful).

Because you're new to riding, it's also possible that you were nervous which caused you to tense various parts of your body. This could be the reason your arms and inner thighs were sore. As you ride more, try to focus on relaxing and staying loose.

Last, make sure your bike fits you. If your seat is too low, this could make your muscles work extra hard in ways that don't help you go faster. Each leg should be fairly straight (but definitely not totally straight or locked all the way out) at the bottom of your pedal stroke. If you can have someone who knows a little about riding help with your seat height and overall position, that will make you more comfortable on your day of riding.
