1. Cannondale Synapse Carbon 6 Compact 2009
2. Trek 2.1 Compact 2009
Answer
I going to assume that your asking which would be the better bike? The specs for the Trek below came from the trek site and the Cannondale from REI. Both bikes being in the same price range there would be no doubt the trek would be the better of the to in the 2009 series of bikes.
The Trek has the better drive train with the 105s with a 10spd VS the cannondale with Shimano Tiagra components and a 9spd and it's just a better all around bike. I have rode a Trek 2100 and 5200 for years and never had any problems with either

Answer
You're on the right track with this bike. Although it says entry level and sport many of the components are higher quality for instance the ritchey products are high class. You've got a carbon fork. Many entry level bikes do not have carbon forks. The sport description seems wrong, because it looks more like a racing geometry with woman friendly aspect incorporated. It's a good bike! No it's not a fancy name brand but it's higher quality than a lot. You'll probably want to look into upgrading the wheels. Use the alex rims as your training set and then get a fancy set to use for special occasions, epic rides and races if you go that far.
