Want to buy a bike for street riding?

Salim N
I just moved to toronto and sold my old mountain bike. Now that the summer season is out I want a good bike to ride, but I'll mostly be using it to ride in Toronto on the streets, so I would want a lighter one.
My budget is $500, what kind of bike should I buy?
I am a 19 year old male, about 150lbs
Thanks!
I was looking for brands/model numbers, not where to go
Answer
Trek, Giant, Cannondale, and Raleigh all make good hybrids. I would go with the brand that the best local bike shop sells.
