Are you, as an American, saddened that other American's actually want the "Big 3" to go away? ?

Bail out politics aside please!!!

IF the Big 3, GM, Ford and Chrysler closed it's door's today, do the hater's realize what would be lost other than the obvious job's etc. etc.
Henry Ford invented the assembly line. I wish I could meet an understanding girl like his wife when he fired up the first flathead V8 in his dining room on Thanksgiving day instead of having turkey!
Toyota's very first straight 6 cylinder engine was a COPY of the Chevrolet 6 cylinder in the 1930's.
The Beach Boy's sang, "She's so fine my 409" not She's so fine my 1.9.

Here's what would disappear:
-ALL new Corvette's, Camaro's, Challenger's, Mustang's and Viper's.

-ALL 1 ton Pick-Up trucks. Sell those horses, there will be know more horse show's. There goes anybody that pull's a trailer like landscaper's and construction workers. Nobody else makes trucks like the U.S.A. much less a 1-ton+)

-Cargo Van's. What's Joe the plumber going to work out of? A Nissan mini van with 1/8th of his supplies? Don't forget some Cargo Van's get to become Conversion Van's!

-All Chassis Cab's. What's a chassis cab? The truck's that Ambulance's, Tow Truck's, Box truck's, RV's, Fire Engine's, Electric Company truck's etc. are made into.

-Cadillac and Lincoln Hearses and Limo's. You can't make a Limo out of a Lexus. You'll be carried to your grave in a Toyota 1/2 ton Pick-Up truck.

-What would the FBI use for SUV's?

Don't believe me? Look around and pay attention to vehicle brand names on every vehicle small or Large.

I'm a guy from Missouri who's been to Taiwan with my father who did business there so I'm not against foreign car's or products. However, the biggest thing I carried from Tawain is the fact that everybody drove a Bike, a little go-cart, but it was a truck, thing, or a Nissan Sentra. Period. But it wasn't called a Sentra. But trust me, it was a Nissan Sentra. It reminded me of the VW "people's car" thing. Even the cop's drove a Nissan. 4 of them in one little car. A far cry from the intimidating 1 cop in a big Crown Victoria here in America.

Anyway, does anyone else get mad when you here people say good ridance "Big 3"?
I agree with everybody except 'Adam B'. Nissan is getting ready to recieve Dodge pick-up's rebadged as Nissan's. Toyota Tundra's are the 2nd ugliest truck behind Titan's.
'Ygg', I own an '01 Town Car. Silver, no old man stuff at all like luggage rack, wheel well trim etc. I had American Racing make some 18x10 and 18x8 Torque Thrust II's. There going on in the spring. Maybe we can share some suspension setup's.
Ford's may not come with Bisltein shock's but GM's have for a long time.

I've owned a '69 Camaro for 22 year's. I fix car's for a living so I've driven everything from a Ferrari 308 to a 3 cylinder Geo. They all make good stuff and crap. Nobody mentions how GM car's get better mileage in most categories right now. Or how Mazda's are basically Ford's, because there owned by Ford, with Ford stuff but I never hear any complaints about Mazda.

Answer
Detroit has had 30+ years to start getting things right...and they still suck. I have a Grand Marquis...and it is a great car (now, that I've modded it heavily), but guess what? It isn't an American car! It (and its sister, the Crown Victoria), are both made in Windsor, Ontario. There is absolutely no imagination in American rides. Take the Grand Marquis for example...Same Panther Chassis that has been used since 1994...it is the flagship chassis for all Ford cars...including the Mustang, which runs on a shortened Panther chassis. Personally, I like the 4.6 Ford V8, but they have been using that since what, 1992? I did some suspension, shock, and other adjustments to it...and it is actually a car that can stand up to a 5-series BeyEmVey! But then, does Ford put Bilsteins or Tokicos on its rides...no. Well, they do put Tokicos on the Police Interceptor, but the rest are garbage. My tricked Grand Marquis corners flat as a board...the stock Grand Marquis wallows like a pig. I like throwing the Grand Marquis around, but let's just say I do most of my fun driving in my old '83 Porsche 911SC.

To Ford's credit, they did build a performance Grand Marquis, the Marauder...but they dumped it in two years. There was even a Marauder Convertible prototype built, which could have competed favorably with a few Imported GT rides. Frankly, Detroit thinks we are clueless morons. You give me a few grand and a Grand Marquis...and I'll trick it out to make a beautiful and fast and good handling ride. But Detroit would rather drop 60s technology on us. I mean, do you remember how long it took to get things like disc brakes, seat belts, radial tires, alloy wheels, etc. Hey, any hot rodder could build a better ride than the "experts" in Detroit. And Art Center School of Design turns out many gifted car designers, but they don't end up in Detroit. I mean what world class designer want to work for an industry that brought us such "works of art" as the Pontiac Aztec and Ford Prism and Geo Metro?

Chrysler is crapped out...they even split off Mopar. Hell, the last decent car they built was in 1972. Yeah, they made the bullet=proof Dodge Dart, with the Slant-6, but now they produce absolutely horrible V6 power plants. Also, Chrysler hasn't had a good automatic transmission since about 1967.

GM...take away the Corvette (which owes its very existence to Zora Arkus Duntov's great thinking and design) and GM has zippo, nada, nothing.

I say, let the free market determine what sells and who succeeds. Toyota, Nissan, and Honda rule the roost. Of course, they are cars made in America.

Compare the following cars:

Crown Victoria v Toyota Avalon

Chrysler Town & Country v Honda Odyssey

Chrysler Magnum v BMW M-5

Cadillac v Mercedes

Dodge RAM v Toyota Tundra

Do you get my point? I cannot think of a single American car that isn't bested by its foreign equivalent. I am oped to suggestions though...but I bet you can't come up with one.

BTW, American trucks...like Fire Engines...our FD drives Volvos.

Anyway, with rare exceptions, American cars/trucks SUCK! I don't like it, but Detroit refuses to change...and so, the Big-3 have become a joke...and not even a funny joke.

And, when you consider that the Big-3 have duped us into buying mini-vans (while dumping the far more reasonable station wagons), why should we be loyal? The only reason we even have SUVs is that they are built on cheap-o truck frames, which lowers the production costs and safety costs. The change wasn't because of technology, it was because of greed. I once owned two 66-67 Chevy Station Wagons, one with a rat 396 and the other with a rat 427...real oddball rides. I wish I had those rides now, because they will dust any SUV and maybe a BMW or two.

I do not lament the Big 3 going down, because they have sold the American driving public total crap for years. Good riddance!!!

The OP posted (screwed up the lyrics BTW) about the Chevy 409. It was an ill-handling beast, but at least it was fun.

Freddie: Hey...I had a 90 town car...I put dualies with an x-pipe on it. LOL The only Town Car in history to sound like a Mustang GT. LOLOL
