road bikes academy image

I recently bought a Ozone 500 mens road bike from Academy Sports, which only costs about 170$. I could not afford an expensive bike and looking online for a good cheap bike through reviews proved frustrating. All I could find was people bashing department store bikes. People were recommending bikes that cost 500$+. I just couldn't afford it. I have enjoyed this bike a lot, and I am having no trouble with it. It shifts great and the chain hasn't slipped once. The only problem was that the seat was hard as a rock, but that was nothing that a 5$ cushion could not fix.
My question = In what ways are bikes that costs extreme amounts of money, for example more than 1000$ more quality? I understand that they will weigh a lot less. But will they travel at higher speeds? Or accelerate faster?
Thanks.

Some of the metals used will raise cost for example same Aluminum but one was heat treated to make it stronger. Now compare that to carbon fiber;Lighter that's it but not far by much. The wheel spoke materials and process may also be different and the manufacturing process. Other small parts will also bump up the price for example disc brakes vs. Pads. Name brand Shocks in the front by Fox vs. Standards coil shock. Some of these parts are critical if racing or off road, take all the variatey in car tires for examples. Other wise its just paint and USA vs made in china but I will stick to my $25 dollar bike I got at a yard sale. Rides like a million bucks and passes the $2000 bikes or hangs with the best of them. Ride safe :)

Do they make a bicycle for my large body?

I'm 6'1" and weigh 300Lbs Most bikes that are sold at Academy are rated at 150-200Lbs. I don't want to buy a $1,000 dollar bike if I don't have to. Looking for an affordable large Mountain or Road Bike. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Answer
Trek rates their mountain bikes for 300 lbs if you don't go out and do jumps you wont have any problems. You will also need a larger frame for your height so go to the local bike shop. You want 24 speeds or more so you get the stronger free hub axle.
