I would use it for commuting but the road is quite rough and I want to make sure that even "off-road" I would not break my neck if you know what I mean..:D So Ive got 3 options. Which one would you recommend from these?

Skip the 3 rd one you don't need shocks. The fist one is only available in small and the second in large. You need to try several bikes out and get tires 700 X 32c or wider gravel and dirt roads. Get the one that feels the best.

2012 Jamis Satellite sport or 2010 jamis aurora bicycle?

So im looking at getting a new road bike for myself. my budget is $700 and i just want some input from fellow bikers. I found a 2010 Jamis Aurora Benzegreen (used $600) at a local bike shop and a new 2012 Jamis Satellite Sport ($695) both under my limit of $700. is the Aurora a better deal? I plan on riding a tour soon for few hundred miles and use it daily as well.
Both bikes fit me just fine and the Aurora looks to be in good shape with original parts. Im just wondering if the Aurora being 3 years old is worth $600. are they giving me a deal or should i talk them down a bit?

The Aurora is a touring bike, the Satellite Sport isn't, so if you plan to tour, the aurora is a better bike. The aurora also has a better component specification. It would be heavier, but far more capable for carrying baggage. Touring bikes also make superb commuters. The only question is how much use it has seen. Does the shop selling it offer any guarantee or after sales service? Have any components(such as tires, chain, or cassette) been replaced? If the bike is in good condition, AND it fits you, it is probably the better bike for you. Are you able to negotiate on price?
EDIT: Having original parts on a 3 year old bike is fine if the bike wasn't used much. If the bike was ridden, chain and cassette could both be worn. Are the tires original? the amount of wear on the tires is the key. If they are original and still look new, the bike wasn't ridden much. If the tires are almost worn out, the chain and cassette will have significant wear no matter how good they look. The rule of thumb for second hand bikes is 50% of the original price minus 5% per year of age. However this bike is being sold through a bike shop, so they will ask somewhat more. $600 is a bit high, $500-$550 would be more reasonable
