What is a good road bike?

Looking for a road bike .what is a good make and style.

Answer
All good road bikes either come from real bike shops, or one of the higher end bikes from a web site - Bikes Direct. I would not order a bike from the Internet unless you are 100% positive it is the right bike for you.

What is the right bike for you? Only you can tell by going to all the bike shops in your area, trying them (road test) and asking all the questions you can. Fit & feel is the #1 priority. If it doesn't feel right - it's not. Other things to ask, what is the follow up service warranty? Some shops only give one free check-up. Some for a year - some for life.

There are a ton of good makes...Raleigh, Trek, Specialized, Cannondale - the list goes on & on. Just avoid discount store & big box store bikes like the plague! I can't recommend one specific brand. Buying a bike is like buying a pair of shoes - very personal experience. Only you know when it's right.

Are road bikes significantly faster than mountain bikes?

Lol Also which is better to get you fitter? road or mountain

Answer
road bikes are significantly faster than MTBs. if you look at their gear set, road bikes have large pedal cogs, anything from 40T and up, whereas MTBs only have 20Ts and 30Ts, rarely over a 40. this gearing allows the rider to apply more grunt per push of the pedal, resulting in a faster speed. MTBs dont need the higher gear set because mountin biking isnt smooth riding, so trying to use higher gears would be near impossible in most cases.

road bikes are definitely weird to a mountain biker, its a very different riding position, but after a while it will click and feel natural.

i'm a MTB-er myself, so i cant really tell u much about road biking. however, i have ridden both and i can tell you im much more tired after riding a MTB, because MTB-ing isnt just riding on flat and smooth paths. trails curve, sometimes have rocks or other obsticles that u need to get over, so it doesnt just work ur legs, u can work ur arms and torso as well. plus MTBs are more fun (in my opinion)
