my moms birthday is on the 25, and i want to get her a hybrid mountain bike. she is 5'7" and i would like to know what is the best brand aka set up for her. we like on a dirt road, so it would need to be a off road. and we also would go out into a field with sticks. hope this helps! pictures woukd be great.
Answer
I think she may be happier with a hard tail mountain bike from the description you provided of where you want to ride. My opinion is that a hybrid is more at home on paved surfaces.
Lots of brands to be found. Check their web sites.
Cannondale
Trek
GT
KHS
Specialized
on and on and on.

Go out to a bike shop and see what they have. This time of year has some sales on left over 2007 merchandise, so begin shopping.

I'm a beginner that bikes on road trails and from time to time some off road
Answer
a hybrid is more lghtweight and is meant for roads and mild terrain and a mountain bike is heavier due to more shocks and a stuffer frame. it would be used for off-road trails but could still be used in the road....you said that you bike on the road and offroad. so get a hybrid I reccomend...and you are a begginer so don't break your bank with a 1000$ + hybrid...cannondale makes exellent bikes
