First of all...what type of riding will you be doing? You didn't state that. Strictly road, off-road, commuter riding, racing...what? $500 is more or less a bottom of the line road bike (racing). But, for $500 - you can buy an excellent hard-tail M/B or hybrid bike. I like Raleigh and Trek bikes. But any of the major brand names are good. All the bike links listed below have an aluminum frame. The Raleigh bikes have double-walled rims for extra strength.

I am looking for a hybrid bike for use on basic road systems, preferably 300-500 dollar range, any advice?
