Help me buy a new bike?

A!

Okay I'm thinking buying new bike. But not sure if I should buy hybrid or mountaine bike. I need bike to get from point Ato point B in city streets or off pavement road. I'm looking for bike with suspension of front or both front and back. Large wheels. A bike I can run over sidewalks , light flame. Something between road bike and mountaine bike. I like to ride my bike everday on Brooklyn bridge which you have to crime. And upstate new york off road pavement. My budget is from $700-$900.

I'd go with a mountain bike, instead of a fixie or a racing bike. When at a bike shop, ask for either a Hardtail or a 29er, for your purposes you won't need full suspension.

Since your budget is high enough, I'd recommend either a Specialized, Trek, or Giant brand bike. They're more reliable, ride smoother, and last longer than a Huffy or Mongoose branded bike you could get from wal-mart. I've had bikes from these makers, and they were all excellent. I also use a light mountain bike to get around town.

Another tip to save money would be to check your local craigslist for bikes from the above brands, or any others you research to be good. You can save money, and try out the bike on the spot. Some bike shops don't want you riding the bike around outside, but most sellers on craigslist are more flexible.

I'd recommend mtbr.com/reviews to read up on different bikes, and see which one is right for you.

Bike Routes in New York?

Hey,
Im looking for a bike path to ride my new road bike. I live in down county in New york. Ne suggestions. Im pretty new at riding so nothing too tough.
Thanks

Answer
I actually just biked on the North County Trail this past weekend. Its about 46 miles long, but there are a lot places to get on and off of it in towns like Yorktown, Somers and Briarcliff. It's really easy to bike because there aren't really any big hills so its good for a beginner.
