Answer
You should start off with a visit to the doctor...have a check up and make sure you are healthy enough to exercise.

I lost 40 lbs a few years ago: I ate less and exercised more. Sounds easy, but it aint! I had a mantra: If I always do what I've always done, then I'll always get what I've always gotten. It helped me when I wanted to go off my plan. I got to the point of being tired of feeling sick and tired.

Next up I recommend a pulse monitor (any sporting goods store). This will allow you to know when you're at or near your heart rate limit. Using this, I do my walk/jog routine. I'm 43 and female. Subtract your age from 220 (female) or 200 (male) for your hear rate limit. I know that if I go over 170 bpm, I feel ill (I have asthma). So, when my heart rate reaches 165, I walk. I found picking a nice area helps. I used the bike path in Providence RI (East Bay path) to start cycling. They had mile markers on the path, it's mostly flat (1 hill) and the view of the river is peaceful. Drive to a park or a beautiful area you've never been to before. I walk/jog w/ good tunes (I never cycle w/ tunes...too dangerous).

Swimming is a good, low impact exercise. Dancing is good as well, so long as it doesn't spur on eating/drinking.

Variety of exercise is key, along with a routine. If you mess up one day, don't beat yourself up...just get back on track tomorrow. Add in some weight training as well. Use weights or bands. Wallmart sells the Danskin bands...I highly recommend them. The poster is very helpful.

Use portion control and try to eat smart. You can have some bad stuff, just reduce the amount by a lot (at least half). Stay away from alcohol as it slows down the metabolism. (it's a depressant) and reduce fat intake (empty calories). Keeping yourself busy will help reduce the eating due to boredom.

Lastly: you didn't put the weight on overnight, you are NOT going to lose it overnight. Expect 1-2 lbs a week after you lose that first burst of weight. Only weigh yourself once a week (I do it Mon morning, just before I go in the shower and before I have breakfast...do NOT skip breakfast). Keep to a routine.

Good luck...you can do it!

what is it like in northern,va?

Zaya

i might possibly be moving to northern,VA in upcoming december.. im currently live in hampton roads,VA im bout to be 13 in aug. can someone tell me what the schools are like and what its like living there

Answer
For the most part it's very nice.
PROS: Falls Church City is a nice mainly white suburb, used to be best rated schools there.
It's part of the DC area.
Schools are overall nice, and good.
Public transportation is okay. Subway is easy, but getting expensive. They are building and expanding roads right now and subway into Reston.
It is really an extension of DC with Tysons Corner and Rosslyn.
Alexandria is nice, Springfield is growing, so is Reston, Manassas. Arlington is another hang out spot.
George Mason U is there, it's an okay school, mostly for residents.
A lot of bike great bike paths. Great Falls park. Potomac. A lot of cool stuff to do outdoors.
A lot of cops, that are obnoxious, actually Fairfax county overdid it on the police population so now they have almost nothing better to do, it's kind of both good and bad.
The economy there did experience a boom, so that's good.
A lot of yoga places, nice cars, nicely dressed people, overall, it's very livable.
Very multicultural, you will be able to find anything you want from another culture there, from Swedish to African, etc.

CONS: Last year alone about 40,000 residents moved to Fairfax County and NoVA. Getting crowded. Lots of heavy traffic in rush hour on 495, and all other roads.
MS-13 are active there, that's the main gang El Salvadorian gang operating there. A lot of spanish immigrants, and middle eastern.
3 hours away from the Ocean, 1 hour away from the bay.
THe NVCC (community college) is not very good, but it is a community college, so what to expect.
Not a lot of culture, it seems like it's a lot of business there.
It's also very expensive considering. Cultural events in DC are just as expensive and it takes a while to get to. Alexandria is pretty cultural (pro).

I moved out of there, to me the whole of DC is a "nicely cleaned toilet" where I don't find much culture and people are about trends, fashions, a lot of politicians, too many lawyers, firms, Army is right there - pentagon, CIA is there, it is very multicultural. Very humid summers, but I am sure you know, winters are fine, sometimes it gets snowed in, but it is very flat, and they do clean the roads. It's a nice place to grow up in, but I personally, left 3 years ago, 1/2 I spent in San Fran, 2 I spent in Providence, and now I live in Pittsburgh, because I like culture, art and things like that, I am most likely to move back to Providence soon to stay there for good, as I found that to be the best place for my cultural and artistic and outdoor freedom.
