Just got a used road bike from one of my relatives.
It's beat up but rides nice.
I was wondering how to remove all the rust from it?
There's a lot of rust... can i just use dish soap or something?

Answer
Please use rust remover and chrome polish.

Most chrome on bicycles made since the 1980's will not withstand the grade of steel wool of an SOS/Brillo pad! Don't use the green pad on the back of a sponge either. If you must use steel wool use nothing more course than 0000 grade and use it with oil. Any light oil from vegetable to WD-40.

An application of a common big box store rust remover (following label directions) followed by a rinse and then some polish will be faster and better results than steel wool.

Do you know anything about the bicycle brand Open Road?

Ava

I'm considering buying a bike of that brand but I've never heard of it nor did I find any information on the road bikes when I researched it. Are they of good quality?

Answer
Montgomery Ward bike from the 1970's to possibly early 1980's.
