I've been laid off from my job for several months and have gained back 30 unwanted pounds. Could actually afford to lose 60 or more to get at where I should be for my height. But definitely no need to be a skinny bean pole.
But is riding a bike(not in the gym, actual pedal bike) Is that helpful in losing weight or does it not benefit all the parts of the body that need to be worked.

Absolutely. It's a cardio workout. Cardio is one of the best ways to lose weight. If you want to build some muscle then you'll want to do weight training. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn, so it's good to include both. Like some other people mentioned, adding some push ups or using a weight and doing curls would help work the upper body more to gain some definition.

Will riding a stationary bike help me lose weight?

I really want to lose weight. I am way overweight and was wondering if I ride a stationary bike if it will help me lose weight? Of course I know I need to eat right and have plenty of water. I plan to cut out soda and going out to eat all the time.I don't want to be bigger by riding the bike I just want to seriously lose the pounds. Thanks!

However, yes stationary bike is good method for losing weight.
Other exercises like walking, running, swimming, skipping, cycling and STATIONARY BIKE! Are good exercises for losing weight.
