I am 15 years old and I am looking for a small motor bike... I don't want a road bike. I have been on my friends PY90, and i loved it. I am pretty Big for my age and i was wondering is this the right bike for me. I am not looking for something over 125cc, and also I am on a tight budget.
Answer
check local listings, like craigslist, newspaper, ebay, if you're in Utah or the surrounding areas we have KSL.com.
125ccs are a ton of fun, always 2 stroke (do your research). (yamaha honda kawasaki ktm suzuki are all very good brands)
keep in mind that you will def want gear ( at the very LEAST need a helmet and boots ~$230, don't buy a used helmet.)
and you have to keep up on maintenance esp for a race bike which is what those are. which is trans oil every ~5 hours, 2 stroke oil and premium gas, registration, fuel filters + air filters every 8 hours i think? chain and sprocket (they should go together) which is about $200, i like to change mine every 2 years, repacking is about $5. and the biggest of all, a new top end every year (its about $125 - $200 depending on what you get).
SO, get something newer (1990 and up) and it will be less in the long term.
i hope to see you out on the trails! btw dual sports are cheaper to an extent.

What size of motorcycle engine is recommended for long distance road trips?

Ben
I live in Utah, and would like to make trips around the western United States. I would like to go as far as Oregon. I am currently looking at the Yamaha V-Star 1100 in the '02-'07 range. I've been told I will grow out of a 650 pretty quick. Basically my question is, what does a bike need for long distance travel?
Answer
For long-distance work like that, bigger is better. A 1100 is certainly better than a 650, though a 650 could certainly do it. A 1300 would be better, but the 1100 is good enough. Cruisers are made for -cruising-. 8^)
I have a Honda ST1100, 1100cc, 4 cyl, water cooled. It has all the power I would need to cross the country. A big heavy bike like that is also smoother and more stable, so it's not as much work to ride it hour after hour. It makes the trip a lot more fun because you don't get all worn out.
