Hi, I'm a 26-year old female from the Philippines. I'm 5'2" and looking for a good quality Beach Cruiser / Comfort Bicycle. Most bicycle reviews I find online are from the U.S. and the bikes they review are typically expensive brands not found in the Philippines. What is a cheap brand of Cruiser or Comfort bike that I can buy here in Manila. Ofcourse, even if it's cheap, I'd prefer that it is of good quality.
And how far have bikes been complicated nowadays? Back when I was a kid, a bike is as simple as just ride it and go. But now I hear words like fixed gear, 8 gears, hybrids, motorized. If I buy a ride-and-go bike (which I feel is a lot safer than complicated ones because I don't have to think of anything else), what's the difference with the high-tech stuff?
Would my P3,000 get me one of the good quality bikes? If not, what is the minimum budget for a good bike? I heard that it's cheaper to buy the parts separately and have it set up in Quiapo rather than buy a pre-set-up bike. If so, where in Quiapo? Or should I really invest in a pre-set-up, branded bike? Is there a big price difference?
Thanks for your answer, Soccerref. Now I understand it better.
With that information, I have a few more questions:
What is the ideal size for my height?
I would like a bike to ride around my neighborhood. to do errands with it.
I have read a few articles and they said that a Beach Cruiser, Comfort Bike, or Road Bike is what's suitable for me.
I have found a few that I like from Fuji. Can you tell me your opinion about this with regards to my height and needs?:
Touring Bike
- Light
- I think this is only 1 speed (is it the same thing as fixed gear?)
- I like that you can put stuff at the back (useful when going to the grocery)

Cruising (Sanibel 1)
- Super cute!
- With 3 speeds (is this better than the touring bike? like when I want to go a little faster?)
- Cheaper than the touring bike
- I love that the wheels have white rims

Answer
Cheap & Quality are two words that don't go together. Surely they have bicycle shops in the Philippines. See them.
