It is only as good as it's price implies. Entry level hybrid that would NEVER sell for $700. I think that the bikesdirect.com guys got that comparison wrong... not a common error for them.

Just remember that the bike must be assembled, so I highly recommend that you take it- still in the sealed box- to a bike shop for building. This'll do several things- first, it will be built correctly (no offense), second it will start a relationship between you and the shop which is VERY important for mail-order bikes since many shops won't work on them, third it will give you a chance to get whatever else you might need like a helmet, water bottle cages, lock, kickstands, lights, a seat pack with extra inner tube and tire levers, and and a map of local bike paths.

I am looking for a hybrid commuter bike to get around town and I found these on craigslist. Which one of these is best for me? I am a male (5'9", 145lbs.)

number one ($80)


20" Bridgestone MB6 Hybrid Commuter.
Suntour Components - triple chainring in the front.
26" Wheelset - quick release hubs - new tubes and lots of traction on tires.
Thumb shifting for 21 gears - very fluent shifting.

number two ($100)


16" Trek 900 Hybrid Commuter in great condition.
New tubes and commuting Kenda Cross tires.
Suntour components - 21 gears - shifts and brakes really well.

22" Bridgestone Hybrid Commuter.
Suntour components - 21 gears - shifts and brakes well.
26" Joytech wheelset. Lots of tire clearance for fenders.

21" Schwinn Cross Fit Hybrid Commuter.
700c x 38 wheels/tires. Grip twist shifting
21 gears - breaks and shifts really well.
Perfect commuter bike.
