HELP!! Which bicycle should I get?!?

I'm a high school student, and I absolutely LOVE bike riding. I'm looking to buy a nice, good-quality bike but I'm not too well-informed on bicycle qualities, brands, and specifications. (weight, material, size, durability, speed ability, age, etc).
I usually ride on paved-trails (waterfronttrail.org), and occasionally gravel or dirt paths. And I really enjoy long bike rides (went for a 10 hour ride last Sunday, woohoo!). Which bike would be appropriate for me? Why? And what do you think of the prices?? ...

best light set for a bicycle?

what is the best set/front and rear lights that i can get for my bicycle?

the path i am often cycling down has no form of lighting
and i really only want to be spending roughly £20 on each light (the cheaper the better) or if i am buying a set a maximum of £40

i ride a road bike/racing bike (the one with thin tyres)
i want to mount the front light to the handlebars, the rear can go anywhere (either on my bag or the bike)
i will be riding the bike early in the morning and on occasion at night (both times at which it is considerably dark)

any useful help will be gladly appreciated

You need a very good headlight to be able to see. I bought a Cree headlight like these and it works great. Just don't look directly into it.
