My dad wants a mountain bike. He is about 5'6 and middle aged. He hasn't really mountain biked before. We don't live in the mountains but there is a mountain biking park nearby. It's all kinds of trails with some small obstacles and a lot of roots sticking out of the ground. I am looking for a specific bike he could get. A couple suggestions would be good. Nothing too expensive. He doesn't need a super nice bike, just one that he can ride at this park. I know hardtail would be better for a beginner but because of all the roots I think he would be more comfortable on a full suspention bike.
I know what the best brands are but they are all really expensive. We don't need the best bike out there.
Answer
go to your local bike shop and ask them about a bike for a novice.
also when shopping ask about used generally you will save cash .
yahoo, myspace and othersites have bike groups that meet locally contact one of those and they could direct you in the right path and how not to get ripped off.
check out craigslist for bikes they have a good selection.
dont just buy the first one you see shop around.
good luck

How Do you ride with two people on one bike?

Lisa
Okay, I know this seems like a silly question, but I am not an avid- biker and wondering how this happens? Does one person sit on the handlebars or something? lol

Pegs! They are attached to the back wheel so another person can stand on them while your on your seat pedaling!
...If you click here and scroll down a little you can see the pegs on the back wheel.
