I'm 5'9" and 135lbs, I'm looking for a newer model road bike (2009 or newer) for around $500.
Any suggestions? Specific models I should check out?
My frame size is between 54cm-57cm.

I'll be using the bike mostly for road trips, probably won't be entering races, but I still ride at workout/intense paces.
Also, I'm from Portland Oregon, I could use suggestions for bike shops as well.
I'm willing to go well over $500, but I'd much rather not.

"Quality"? $700 and up. But...as pointed out by another, if you have a Performance Bicycle Shop around - they carry their own line of Fuji road bikes for $549.99. That's about as cheap as you'll get. The Kenda K152 tires aren't the greatest. I'd swap them out for something better - like Continental Gatorskins.

looking for custom size road bike.?

I am 6' 8" tall and weight 205 pounds im looking for a company that will make custom sized road bikes that will fit me. I don't want to rebuild and old 70's or 80's road bike because I've already done that and I'm looking for something that will allow me to become seriously competitive. so what are the companies that will make custom fitted road bikes?

Wow, where to start? There are lots of custom bike builders that could help you. If you lived in the Portland Oregon area you could ask any good local bike shop and they could direct you to a bunch of them without difficulty.
If you live somewhere else, start with your local bike shops and see who is local and talk with them. A good shop often knows of a custom builder of two.
If you are looking for something pretty unusual or specific as far as materials or optional designs, Independent Fabrications makes some incredible bikes and they only make custom bikes. They range from pure race to cyclocross, sport touring and even full on touring bikes. They also cover the gamut of materials from steel and stainless steel (yes stainless!) to titanium and carbon fiber.
