I've had a nice mountain bike for some time but looking to get a road bike for riding on the road (already tried slicks on my mtb for six months and ready to splurge on a road bike). Any suggestions? I am looking in the $1400 range and preferably all carbon fiber although not against aluminum. I am a casual rider but would want to use it in some sprint triathlons
Answer
Khs, GT and Jamis have great values in Carbon Fiber road bikes. KHS has a full carbon bike, list priced at $1299.00
Get the the bike with the best wheels........that makes the biggest difference.

Tips for safe road biking in Chicago?

scuderia_f
I'm planning on fixing my bike up so that I can go riding again for the first time in awhile. Since I'm riding in the city of Chicago (occasionally on the roads) are there any safety tips I should follow?
I'm only used to suburban riding and I'm not sure how to ride on Chicago streets (although I'm going to avoid them as much as possible).
Any tips?
Also, are there any bike trails from the Lake Shore bike path to the Belmont and Fullerton CTA stops?
Answer
Occasionally on the roads? Always ride on the roads! Think like a car and you'll be treated like a car. Be visible and predictable and people will know where you're going and try not to intersect your path. Don't ride on the sidewalks or go against traffic. Follow all traffic laws that cars do.
