I am 16, my sister is 13, and my father is 36. We are going to California in July or August and will be staying near San Francisco. Last year we went to Florida and did amusement parks and stuff like that. We don't really want to do that again. What are some good places to go to in California near San Francisco??
Ideas my dad has already: Golden Gate Bridge, Redwood/Sequoia Trees
Answer
You do not want to miss Yosemite. Make reservations to stay at least one night in the park. This is the most beautiful place. Check out this site for more info:

I would also suggest exploring California's Central Coast area. You will find small beach towns, coastal sand dunes, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Hearst Caste, wineries, and more.. It's a blast to rent an ATV or take a hummer ride through the sand dunes at Oceano. Here's a link about Oceano:
http://www.cheers2wine.com/Oceano-Dunes.html. The beaches along the Central Coast are not as crowded as in Southern California.
San Diego is a great place to visit as well. It's known for its mild year round weather and there are lots of fun outdoor things to do. One of my favorite is kayaking through the caves in La Jolla. You see all kinds of marine life up close and personal. They also have jet skiing in the bay, hang gliding off the ocean cliffs, parasailing, hiking, biking, beach volleyball, a great zoo, and lots of museums. How to cross Golden Gate with bike rental, then shuttle to Muir Woods?

Hello, can anyone tell me the cheapest way to get these services? Here's what I want to do:
This is for a Tuesday morning. Rent a bike to ride across the bridge and on to Sausalito. (how long does this take?) Park & lock the bike somewhere and get on a shuttle to Muir Woods. Hike a forest loop trail (which one?) Return to Sausalito for the bike and put it on a ferry back.
It would be nice if the bike's return location was near the ferry point.
Thanks!

Here is the shuttle schedule to Muir Woods: http://www.marintransit.org/routes/66.html
Note that the shuttle is closed until May. No experience with them, this was the first Google result.
There are several bike rental places along the waterfront. In the off season you can sometimes haggle a better deal. Also hotels frequently have a hookup, usually at a cheaper discount then going down to rent yourself.
