I just found out I'm pregnant. I'm about 8wks along. I usually ride my bike to college (there and back, about 4 blocks) a day. I had a bit of a scare earlier in the week with some bleeding and dehydration (from morning sickness) that landed me in the ER but the baby is fine. I go for blood work Monday or Tuesday to check my levels but I'm wondering if riding a bike is okay. I know that we're a little off balance during pregnancy but is there any serious warnings against it?
I don't have a doctor yet. The list of 15 that the ER gave me, no joke, the receptionists either flat out told me "no" or hung up on me (I was crying as a pregnant women would!) and so I have to try again with suggestions from my insurance company Monday.
I'm worried because I'm supposed to take it easy since I had some bleeding but DH thinks it's okay. I guess I'll just go with my gut. Would walking be safer?

I was a daily biker before pregnancy so I asked my doctor about this. She said before 13 weeks the baby is behind your pubic bone so sports where you fall aren't as much of a concern. For biking, she asked that after that 13 week point I keep it to bike paths rather than the road but that was because she was concerned about me being hit by a car. LOL So I did comply, but the biking itself wasn't the danger. Of course, for someone who doesn't bike at all taking up biking for the first time wouldn't be a good idea! But you sound like me, someone who does it regularly.
I biked up through my sixth month and really the only reason I quit it then was because I got tired of people reacting to me as if I were crazy. I have an older daughter who likes to bike and we were taking nice flat bike paths on the weekend, not commuting. Still, strangers would come up to me and ask, "Are you sure you should be doing that?" It got old!
Now I'm 8 months and there's no way I could do it physically.
Edit: for some reason when I read your question I thought you meant bleeding in your vomit (sorry) but if you mean vaginal spotting or bleeding then you should cut out the biking. That was on my list of doctor's cautions about biking.

Motorcycle riding during pregnancy?

Sarah
I am currently 15 weeks pregnant, my fiance and I always endure in riding the bike around town with frequent stops to eat or visit with friends. Since we recently found out we are pregnant I am now debating on my riding we are getting a sissy bar for the back as well as a new seat to make it more comfortable for me. Riding season will not be until april or so when we will go on our first rides. I would like opinions of people on what should I do. We take frequent stops as stated earlier. We don't take crazy bumpy roads or anything. I look into a belly brace to help brace my stomach while riding, and I just want some opinions. I know the dangers of being on a bike compared to a car but I don't want to have to sit at the house by myself all spring/summer. I am pregnant not impaired like most people think. I know the safety of being on a bike and how most people do not pay attention to bikes. I just want to know the risks of being pregnant on a bike.
I know that rollercoasters, and most objects that jolt and make sudden stops or what not are dangerous and we will not be doing anything like that. So is just a basic joy ride on a motorcycle going to harm my child or danger it in any way. Maybe opinions or what not I know most people would not but I have heard both sides of people riding until they were 9 months and I certainly don't plan on doing that. But just a feedback or what not from experience would be appreciated. Thank you.

Other than the fact that you are not a restrained passenger on a motorcycle like you are in a car there is no difference in riding a motorcycle. Now if you get into an accident on a motorcycle then there is more of a chance that you could hurt the baby only because of the no seatbelt issue. A normal motorcycle ride will not hurt your baby
