road bike 9 speed image

.
I road the MTB to Walmart and back home about 7 miles, with an average speed of 9 MPH, I might be able to get up to 10 if I ride another 10 miles. What average speed can I expect on the Denali Road Bike if my MTB is only 9 MPH?
Somethings that could be causing it to be only 9, not using street tires and my leg isn't fully extended when the pedal is at the bottom, I think the bike is a little too small. Also I never stand on the pedals to spring, I'm always sitting.
Answer
Have your pigeon ride the mountain bike & you on the Denali. See which one is fastest. Have a race.

What's the difference between a 9 and 10 speed cassette?

For a road bike is a 10 speed faster? Easier on hills? What's the difference? Is it worth the upgrade?
Do more teeth on the high gear make it easier to climb hills?
Answer
The gear ratio's will be closer together. You can get different cassettes with wider ranges or lower gearing on both systems. Will the 10 speed allow you to go faster or climb a steeper hill no, but it may give you a few seconds on a long bike ride.
Edit:
The more teeth on the rear or the smaller gear on the front will allow you to have a lower gear for hills. I have a hybrid with a 24 tooth front and a 34 rear and it will climb any hill that will allow you to stay on. Of coase you will be going at 3 mph.
