I recently got a Trek road bike that I really enjoy; it's light and comfortable. But if I ride it too much, my lower back starts to kill me, and it can take days for it to feel better. What can I do to take the strain off of my back? Would a suspension seatpost help, or are those no good on road bikes? I think more than posture it's the shock of riding such a light bike that it hurting my back; how can I make the bike absorb more of that shock so my back doesn't have to?

Go back to the shop where you bought the bike and explain your problem. Trek dealers are usually very conscientious about taking care of their customers. It is possible that you may need to invest in a professional bike fitting. I have lower back problems, yet I can easily ride my road bike for 4-5 hours without problems. It could also be possible that you need to do exercises to strengthen your abdominal muscles to help support your back. Leaning forward on a road bike is actually easier on your spine. It is when you sit upright that road shocks impact your spine the worst. Small adjustment can yield huge improvements. By adjusting the angle of my saddle 2-3 degrees my comfort was hugely improved. Fit on a road bike is VERY important

How do you convert a 10 speed road bike into a single speed or fixie?

I have a 1985 schwin traveler road bike and the derailer recently broke. I was thinking about converting it to a single speed or fixie, but when I went to the bike store the worker advised me against it... Saying that it's a lot harder than you think... How hard could it be? Is it more expensive then buying a new derailer?

It would be cheaper to buy a new derailleur. You could just shorten the chain and remove the shifters and derailleurs. You need the change the axle and replace the cassette with a single cog. This site will explain it in better detail.
