What type of bike do I need?

Jessica

Ok, so my old bike just broke and I'm in the market for a new one, here's what I ride-

I usually ride on hilly pavement
Sometimes I go to my nearby nature park and go on some rugged terrain
I would like the bike to be able to go fast and not be too heavy

Any advice about the type of bike that I should look for, or actual models would be helpful.

Answer
for the harder terrain you want a mountain bike for speed a road bike. so a compromise would be a hybrid bike with suspension and offroad features but larger slimmer wheels for speed. i think they can be a bit expensive so again a better mountain bike would be good. you could try out carrera bikes theyre good all round mountain bikes able to handle the rugged terrain, i dont think they weight that much but to get more speed you could pump the tyre to the highest pressure to make them less sluggish, hope that helps, you can try halfords website/store and pinacle bikes for hybrids evans cycles i think

What size bike will work best for me?

John

I want to start working out with a bike. I am a senior and hope to do 10-15 miles a day. I am six ft tall and want something that will fit my frame. Any ideas?

Answer
In all capital letters...WHAT KIND OF BICYCLE???!!! Get the type of bike designed for "Where & How" you will be riding. Read "Bicycles: How to Choose" on this link...

Then go see your authorized, independent, knowledgeable, friendly, local bicycle shop. Test rides are F-R-E-E! The salesperson will help you choose the best frame size. Frame sizing varies somewhat from one company to the next, just as shoe sizes. You have to TRY them on.

Mountain bike - roughly a 19" or 20" frame size.
Hybrid - roughly a 21" or 22" frame size.
Road bike - roughly a 58 cm frame in a conventional frame or a 55cm to 56 cm frame size in these newer "compact" frame designs.

Per the Evans Cycles website..."This guide gives our customers general advice on choosing the right sized bike. It is a guide only and we always recommend visiting one of our stores..."
