It's something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Electric-Moped-Bikes-Scooter-battery/dp/B004WGY414/ref=pd_sim_sbs_sg_2
I know there are certain laws in New York but I've looked over them a couple of times and I'm still not sure what qualifies or not.
The specific one Im getting goes around 25MPH, has a headlight, and it has pedals. Like I said it looks similar to the one linked above. So anyone have experience with this? Will I be able to ride it on the roads and register it with the DMV? I have a liscense so that's not an issue.

Looks like anything with a motor needs to be registered according to this motorized bike website.

Electric Scooter or Gas Scooter in New York City?

Dave
Hi, I was thinking of getting a Razor Brand electric scooter 300s. I would like to know if it is legal to ride it in New York City? I am planning to only use it in locations where there isn't a lot of traffic or people.
I was also debating/comparing with a gas scooter. The gas scooter is about the same size as the Razor Brand electric scooter. It uses gas instead of batteries. It isn't any car companies like Honda, Toyota, etc. It is 49 CC 4 stroke scooter. Thank you. Pretty much, I am getting it to get around my neighborhood easier and to travel within one to two mile range from where I am. Thank you

The Correct Answer, from the State of New York:
http://www.dmv.ny.gov/recreation.htm#motor
--- quote ---
Motorized Scooters, Mini-Bikes, Dirt Bikes, Go-Karts, Motor Assisted Bicycles
You cannot register any of the motorized devices from the list below in NYS. You cannot operate these devices on sidewalks, public streets or highways in NYS. These devices are motor vehicles, but they do not have the correct equipment or design for operation on roadways.
â¢Motorized Scooter - a device with a motor attached and a handlebar for a standing rider. An example of a motorized scooter is the device called the Go-ped®
...
These devices are not allowed on any street, highway, parking lot, sidewalk or other area that allows public motor vehicle traffic. You are subject to arrest if you operate one of these motorized vehicles and do not have a registration, driver license, inspection, insurance or correct equipment.
--- end quote ---
If a cop catches you on a motorized scooter (Razor or GoPed) he can stop you and toss your scooter into his trunk and you get to walk home.
Or you can be a scofflaw like the others... most cops don't care either.
