what are the top 10 destinations around the world that are great for families with 2 adventurous teens? places that would be a blast for everyone?
Answer
Just my 2 cents, based on places I've been:
1. Petra, Jordan. The Siq (canyon) on the way to the carved city is incredible. And you can hike up to see the Monastery. One of the most incredible places I've ever been.
2. Kyoto, Japan. The temples, shrines, castles, and Zen gardens are unique to Japan. And you can have a kaiseki dinner that is unlike anything you've ever eaten -- almost too pretty to eat. BTW, you can climb Mt. Fuji in July. It's totally doable in about 5 hours. ANd you can eat noodles at the top.
3. Scotland, UK. Castle country in Aberdeenshire is incredible. You can tour family castles and ruins galore. And see tons of sheep around the country.
4. New York City. There is plenty to do for everyone. Circle Manhattan on the Circle Line curise. Climb the Empire State Building. Cruise around Greenwich Village. And have dinner at any type of restaurant you can imagine.
5. Italy. Try a 3 city tour of Venice, Florence, and Rome. We went to Las Vegas to see the Venetian, and then went to "real" Venice. The comparison was interesting. And Florence has a great Duomo that you can climb to the top. And you can see Michelangelo's David. Rome has all the famous sights like the Coleseum, as well as the best pasta ever.
6. Switzerland -- Climb Mt. Zermat, ride the trains over gorges, eat fondue :)
7. Istanbul, Turkey -- See the 1200 year old Hagia Sophia. Enter a Roman cistern. Eat Turkish Mezze. Watch the Bosphorus river traffic.
8. San Francisco -- Rent a bike and ride across the Golden Gate Bridge. Ride a cable car to Ghiradelli Square and eat some chocolate. Take the ferry to Alcatraz and listen to the audio tape of former prisoners. Eat dim sum.
9. Dominican Republic. Get a package to a great all inclusive. Take advantage -- ride a banana boat, go parasailiing, see the beach via horseback.
10. Orlando, Flordia. Yes, Disney is cheesy, but it's still fun to ride the Pirates of the Caribbean or the Thunder Mountain Railroad. And Universal Studios can be cool, even for teens.
Happy travels!

Scooter rental in Japan [more specifically, Hokkaido] ?

sprinklegi
Hello ~
I'll be in Japan mid July ~ August and will be going through Tokyo for a week, Hokkaido for 4 days, Kyoto/Nara, and then Mie for the remainder of my trip [because my friend lives there and she is my main priority in my trip ~]
However I'm mostly interested in mountains and farmland ~ countryside views in Hokkaido and upon further research found that I cannot get to a lot of those places via public transportation.
I'm trying to look into scooter rental but unfortunately a lot of the sites are in Japanese, or simply not in Hokkaido.
I'm not a huge fan of driving and finding places to park, so I'd prefer not to have a car, but I'll be covering long distances in a short amount of time, so walking/skateboarding/bicycling is out of question.
I'm 21 years old, so I'm assuming I'll possibly be denied rental or be charged the underage fee, but I'd like to have a place secured before going to get my IDP.
~~
Does anyone have any recommendations or info in terms of scooter rental in Hokkaido? I'll be staying in the Sapporo area so preferably around there, but if need be, anywhere in the upper island and accessible by public transportation is fine by me.
Thank you for your time!
forgot to mention* I will be in Hokkaido for 4 days, but will probably just rent for 2 days if possible. I've seen some places go as low as $25/day in Osaka, but I guess my budget for rental would be $100~150 total?
