The Learne

okay I am interested in it but I have no decision to actually do it at the moment but I want to know what to consider if I do

I live in the city (NYC) and well you see I have no idea where to go to do mountain biking. I just need ideas or guidance on how to go about this.

this also applies to like rock climbing and such

what I imagine is that I HAVE to regularly drive outside the city to country-like side.
you guys are very helpful/generous! You guys deserve a lot!

Imagine what you could have found out if you had clicked on the links that open up on the first page wen you do a web search for" mountain biking in New York City".

Rock climbing is going to have to be done at a gym though:

Biking in NYC?

Sonofmywor

Me and my friend are going to start cycling around the city, so can anyone suggest some cool places to bike, or places that afford great views of anything. Also...some suggestions on neighborhoods to stray away from whilst biking, if you can? Thanks!

-Within the bounds of New York City (Preferably not Staten Island's Interior)
-Can be in New Jersey, within reasonable distance from the Hudson River, or the Bronx (If North)
Washington Heights, Harlem, or Brighton Beach - depending on who's house we're leaving from.

Answer
where are you starting from?

From Washington heights you can cross bridges to New Jersey or to the Bronx. Both have nice views. I cannot tell you too much about New Jersey. In the Bronx you can ride up to Van Cortland Park. Or over to Bronx Park and the zoo and Botanical Garden. The ride along Pelham Parkway is very nice.. You could also go up Broadway, actually own a long hill, and across the Broadway Bridge to continue up into lower Westchester county. Nice views of the river and Palisades beyond.

From Harlem you can ride along the Hudson on a pedestrian -bike path that I think begins at 125th street and will go all the way down. I don't recommend that anyone less than an expert rider cycle the streets there. Too many drivers have no respect for bikes. You could also ride across the RFK Bridge into Queens. Plenty of spectacular river views to be had. I suggest riding on the south side of the bridge for better Manhattan and East River views. You could also ride around on Randall Island and Wards Island and return to Manhattan via that funky pedestrian bridge that will bring you to 103rd street on the East Side.

From Brighton Beach you can go along the water towards Red Hook. Or in the other direction. For at least part of the way there is a path along the Belt Parkway. Go down Flatbush Ave and across the Gil Hodges Bridge to the Rockaways. The boardwalk begins at about 125th street and runs for several miles.
