Q. I'm looking to get into the sport of road biking but need a bike... don't want to spend more then 350 top on a bike was wondering what one for the price is worth it? I know its not much money but gotta start somewhere
Answer
$350 won't even buy a decent road bike from an internet site where YOU assemble & tune-up the bike. The lowest priced "good bikes" you'll find online all start around $400 & up & up & up....

I have a road bike, Giant Escape 2013. I would like to upgrade this bike.?
Q. I have a raiser handle bar and I would like to switch to drop down handle bar and change brake and shifter to combination brake/shifter for drop down handle bar. What parts and brand should I buy at reasonable price?
Thank you in advance.
If I change handle bar and combination, do I need to change the whole sets like crankset, wires, rear and front derailleur and so on?

Answer
It is going to be pretty expensive to "upgrade" your bike. It was never designed for drop bars, so you will have problems getting the front derailleur to work with the new shifters you want to buy. You will also have trouble getting the brakes to work well since the linear pull brakes on your bike use a different pull ratio than the brake levers you want to change to. So you will need new handlebars, a new stem, new front derailleur, new shifters and a set of travel agents to make the brakes work. You will also have to pay to have all the work done. Figure on all this costing as much as you paid for your bike in the first place. It would cost about the same to sell your old bike and put the money towards buying a new Defy 5. You would then have a nice road bike with components chosen for full compatibility rather than a bike that was never designed for what you want now
