Answer
I live in Northern Ireland and all we need is a provisional licence to ride any bike up to 125cc without tests, although we are an exception (we are part of the UK, and yet the rules are different here)
I don't know of anywhere else and you would need a provisional licence. I also don't know any places that hire them here.
I have heard of people hiring bikes in places like Spain, Greece and Turkey, but I don't know what the rules are like there and whether you need a licence.
To be honest, if you are thinking of hiring a scooter and have no licence, I am assuming you don't know how to drive. A 50cc moped may not be going fast enough for you to kill yourself if you come off it (although it is possible as those things can go in excess of 30 mph), but if you get hit then you have no protection. I would have to advise at least getting a few lessons on anything (car, bike, etc) so that you know the rules of the road and have some experience of driving before you go to a foreign country and start whizzing around.

Can you ride along the chiltern way?

Smokey
I'm based in seer green and am relitively close to the chiltern way, is it possible to horse ride along it?
Also if you know of any other good hacking routes in the area let me know (excluding hodgemore woods)

Hi from a sunny Chiltonian. What a lovely area to have grown up in...Paradise!
Most if not all of the Chiltern Way is ride-able and there are mountain bikes around as well but not many.
It isn't listed as a full riding route on the sites I know and there are places where you'd need to come off it onto the road for a while maybe.
Mostly as expected it's walkers but seen quite a few riders on various parts of it. I don't have a horse but I ride occasionally having learned many years ago while visiting relatives in Bangor in Northern Ireland.

Here are some Chiltern routes for riding....

Seer Green is a good place to get into the trails. I'm near Dunstable Downs when I'm there and love bike rides round the Chalfonts as a fave day out but I'm currently up north on the IOM.
Best of luck
